Undergraduate Programs
The Heartland Baptist Bible College philosophy stands upon a firm belief that the Word of God is wholly adequate for shaping and governing every aspect of ministry including music. The misconception that the Bible
is mostly silent concerning proper music is the result of granting music an
exemption from basic scriptural principles. Because music is culturally defined
as an art and man's tendency is toward artistic freedom, music is often excused
from the basic principles that guide the believer on a daily basis through
other facets of this present world. The same timeless truths of the Word of God
that govern the believer's daily life are more than sufficient to encompass the
use of music to the full potential and satisfaction of a holy God.
The tenets upon which our music philosophy is based are five-fold:
- We will embrace music that does not heighten the conflict between the flesh and the Spirit.
- We want each music student to build an appreciation for a disciplined approach to their ministry.
- We desire to build an appreciation and respect for the structure of authority placed over each musician.
- We recognize the responsibility and privilege to use and build up those God has placed in the body.
- The preeminence of the local church will be reflected within the structure of our music program.
Music students are required to choose a major within the Church Music Program. The available majors are Music Minister, Music Education, and Church Musician. Within each major, music students are also required to choose an area of proficiency. Areas of proficiency offered include piano, vocal, and instrumental.
One additional option exists for the male student who desires both to receive preparation in church music and also to receive a youth emphasis. Please see the information about the Youth/Music major under the Biblical Studies program.
